At the heart of the village, sharing the love of Christ.
Welcome to the Parish Churches of Kingham, Daylesford, and Churchill with Sarsden.
Welcome - One and All
As we come to the end of July we reach the end of our short series of lessons in discipleship from Jesus in Luke 10 and 11. In brief:
We heard Jesus briefing the 72 who were going out ahead of him. He said that some would welcome their message but others would reject it. He gave them power and authority but rather than rejoice in seeing God’s power at work they should rejoice that their names are written in heaven.
When the expert in the law tested Jesus he told the Parable of the Good Samaritan, by which Jesus removed any barriers to our call to love - we are to love everyone, whether like us or quite different.
In the story of Martha and Mary we recognise that practical skills and hard work are important, but they should not distract us from spending time listening to God.
Lastly, today, we looked at Jesus’ teaching on prayer. I’m afraid the livestream didn’t work today - sorry! We all participated in the prayers, praying to the God who Provides; who Pardons; and who Protects. See below the prayers we made. I forgot to mention in the service a super book by Pete Greig, ‘How To Pray’. In short - Keep it Real, Keep it Simple, Keep it Up.
In August we will look at a few ‘small words’ that make a ‘big impact’ on our understanding of faith.
I hope to see you soon, David.
Kingham Church - Roof Appeal
Firstly, THANK YOU to everyone who has already contributed to our appeal.
June 2025:
The church family of St Andrew’s want the church building to be more hospitable and functional and accessible to all. Before development work can begin there are necessary repairs to be made, especially to the roof. Most of the necessary repairs have been planned in detail – the expected cost is £480k. By the end of June 2025 we have raised a total of £264k (paid and pledged) and await the start-date of the first phase of roof repairs this summer. In the last month we are especially grateful for the award of £25k from the Garfield Weston foundation and the first meeting of a new fundraising team. The first news of future fundraising events will be publicised very soon, to start in early September. In the meantime, do look out for us at the Village Fete on 13th July!
